If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

Opening the blinds.

Stress, anxiety, insecurities, depression, argument, worry, sleep problems, esteem issues, skin conditions, overthinking, anger, and fear has become life.

But is it?

  • Didn’t you study hard for a better life?
  • Didn’t try to be your best self to have a loving relationship?
  • Didn’t you make money to secure your family’s future?

So why are you unhappy despite what you achieved so far?

Earlier you were worried for not having a partner, a job and life that matches your wish list but now that you have it you are still worried.

Why?

Have you been through the moments where you are at the most peaceful place and you can feel the breeze, no one is there to bother you and the view is extremely beautiful but all you can feel is sadness, loneliness and how heartbroken you are?

 

Why is that?

The answer is you have attached your happiness with everything in and around your life.

How am I so confident about my answer because I attached my happiness with everything around me whether that’s loved ones, opinions or ambition and I was miserable. Yes, I am admitting it.

 

If your happiness depends upon what is happening outside of you, you are a slave to the external situation’.

We all have been guilty of this because we all bought into the idea of happiness is when you have a family, economic and emotional stability but we forgot that stability is not a capability to control the external situation.

 

Well, the thing is when we attach ourselves with someone so much that they become our whole world so when they are happy we are happy and when they are unhappy we are miserable. There is a constant pressure what happened, when happened, how it happened and how can I undo it? The truth is you cannot.

If It’s your fault you can try your level best to rectify it and it’s up to them to forgive and forget and I hate to say this but the fact is you have no say in this. All you can do is accept their decision with all respect. Now it depends on you how long you take to accept this.

But there are times when you are not at fault on the contrary you are right. And now it’s their turn to accept the truth and who you are and what you stand for. You cannot control their emotions and reactions as you are not responsible for their conduct and their choices.

There is no point of worrying and going insane wondering will they forgive you. Will they ever change? Will this ever work?

If your life depends on somebody’s forgiveness, acceptance, arrival, acknowledgement, criticism. If you are waiting for someone to love you, for a better job or money and position to give you that inner happiness you will probably wait for the rest of your life.

There is no escape what is it is and motivation may come a hard way.

So pinch yourself or if required punch yourself and do what needs to be done because you are only one step away from the happiness you are craving for.

 

  • If you want a happy life then stop cursing the present one. You feel miserable because you have given a visa to your mind to too many people without any rules. So decide the rules and let the other person know. Yes, this is the only option. It may get awkward but to protect the peace of your mind you got to do this.

 

  • Second stop waiting for someone to tell you how unique you are. Figure out your uniqueness and make it work for you.

 

  • Don’t let criticism hit you and don’t allow appreciation to get into your head. As both are equally capable to screw you.

 

  • Don’t worry about the followers you don’t have and value the readers you currently have.

 

  • Don’t waste energy on trying to learn what’s trending, focus and polish the skills you already have.

 

  • Don’t wait to feel special or to be loved. Keep moving and value yourself even when no one does and let things unfold to you. Understand the fact that what is meant for will be given to you. You will receive it so keep going because if you don’t then you might miss what is designed only for you. And I said miss but didn’t say it will be stolen or taken away or will be given to someone else.

 

  • Don’t wait for the promotion to serve happiness to your soul. Don’t compromise with the current position but make peace with it and work with all your heart for the one you are aiming for.

 

  • Most importantly don’t allow your reactions to be determined by somebody else behaviour. Which is going to take a lot of practice but one day at a time.

 

  • You studied hard, worked overtime for the life you have today don’t let it go waste because of the discontentment your higher self is experiencing right now. Find out the root cause of the behaviour and accept it to improve it so that your higher self can receive the happiness and your material self regains its balance.

 

We are normal humans beings and we can’t be saints but we can learn a lot from them. We can’t satisfy ourselves with what we have and be happy but definitely, we can choose a middle way to find inner happiness without getting bothered by outside happenings.

Opening the blinds.

 

Why is it taking so long?

It has been years now.

I have been working on this for forever?

What am I doing wrong?

Will, it ever happen or I will be stuck here for the rest of my life?

Do I need to fail every time?

How much longer do I need to wait?

When is it going to work?

I mean there is not even a sign.

At least something would have happened by now.

Some kind of movement must have happened.

Am I on a wrong track?

I wish I could talk to someone but already everyone thinks I am crazy.

But I wish somebody could tell me what to do which door to knock?

I am in the middle of this I can’t even turn back.

What am I suppose to do?

How do I figure this out?

Just pause.

Stop talking.

Stop pushing your self.

Stop please stop.

Before this season of waiting turns you insane and you lose the track of time and get lost in the thoughts of defeat.

Do a little fact check and use your memory for you and not against you. Instead of reminding yourself how behind, you are how about you remind yourself how far you have reached.

  • Remember those days of high school when that assignment felt like the end of the world and it appeared as if you will fail again and you will never be able to make it to college?

Every time you tried to finish it you ended up procrastinating, delaying, and getting angry but somehow you managed one page at a time and today you have a Graduate degree.

  • Remember those mean girls in college who made fun of you, those awful relatives who not even treated you as human and those neighbours who practically destroyed your social life and remember how you walked away from them and created a social circle for yourself where they know your boundaries and also respect them.
  • Remember how naive you use to be. You were always available for everyone even if they throw you under the bus. And how you grew up to a woman who they first call and ask if you are available.
  • Remember the guy you dated who thought he is doing you a favour by being in a relationship with you.

Remember how devasted you were when he broke your heart and you felt like dying. You believed you are not good enough for anyone and nobody will ever love you. And how he gossiped about you with his friends until one day you looked at yourself in the mirror and told yourself that’s it, he is not worth it, this is where I draw the line. And since then you were the one everyone is looking at including him but you are looking at your purpose.

  • Remember when your loved one was sick and doctors were trying their level best and outside the emergency, you waited thinking what next and just then you heard a voice, ma’am! Ma’am! We need this injection immediately and you pulled yourself back wiped your tears and rushed to the pharmacy as if this is the final race of your life.

You didn’t know will you be able to make it or not? But you ran without thinking because you wanted your loved one to make it. The truth is everything is not under your control but running is and after you finish the race when you see your loved cheering for you, you know the mission is accomplished.

So why do you think this time the mission will be compromised?

If you figured it out at that time why do you think you won’t be able to figure out this time?

If you still have doubt yourself look at the smile of your loved one you were racing for.

If waiting and racing worked at that time why won’t it work now?

It has been a while I know but did it happen overnight back then?

So, it’s taking a while it is supposed to take. You just stick to the plan.

Every time you think of I am behind, I made a wrong choice, its time to give up just remind yourself about the race you never gave up even when your lungs were screaming no more, no more and your heart was yelling I am about to explode and your soul said RUN.

The point is no you’re not behind you are exactly where you are supposed to be in your race so finish what you started because it’s worth it.

You are more tangled, more frustrated and chances of peace are remote. Anger always keep you on defence mode which makes you appear more insecure and vulnerable to others and they continue picking on you.

 

As Lord Buddha once said, “ Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it on someone else; you are the one who gets burned”.

 

Let me tell you a story of the snake and the saw to help you understand the repercussions of anger and even if it doesn’t make you let go of it at least it will alarm you to seriously consider to let go of anger.

 

A snake entered a Carpentry Shop and as it was crawling it clipped itself with the saw lying on the floor. Out of threat he turned back and bit the saw and hurt himself badly in the mouth.

Then, not understanding what was happening to him and thinking that saw was attacking him, he decided to roll around the saw as if wanting to suffocate it with all his strength. The snake was not able to harm the saw at all but ended up killing himself.

This is what happens when in an impulse we thoughtlessly want to reply and get back to people who hurt us but we end up hurting ourselves.

Save yourself from pointless misery, useless overthinking and imagining or planning the chain of events in anger and get off the train forget what he said, she did. It’s not worth it.

Think about what you want not about what you don’t want.

I know to be the bigger person is not easy so I am not telling you to be the one just walk away with dignity without getting involved in small talk.

 

 

Don’t make bullies part of your memory and don’t drag your brain into an unnecessary tug of war.

Let your mind be calm and allow yourself to be happy and live your best life.

Opening the blinds.

Once Buddha was travelling with his disciples. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples “I am thirsty please get me some water”.

When the disciple reached the lake, he saw some people washing clothes at the lakeside then he noticed a bullock cart passing through the lake. As a result, water had become muddy and turbid. The disciple thought that “How can I give this water to Buddha to drink”. So, he returned and told Buddha that the water is muddy and isn’t fit to drink.

So, Buddha told his disciples all right let us take some rest here. After half an hour, Buddha asked the same disciple to go back and get him some water. The obedient disciple agreed and went to the lake.

This time lake was surprisingly clear. The mud had settled down and the water above it looked fit to be consumed. He collected some water and brought it to the Buddha.

Buddha looked at the water, then looked up at the disciple and said “See what you did to make the water clean. You just let it be, the mud settled down on its own – and you got clear water. Your mind is also like that! When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don’t have to struggle with it to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless”

 

So, when you are lost, unclear about what to do? How to solve the problem in front of you? How to end the circumstance you are tangled in? Just for a while drop it. Drop the struggle, stop overthinking. Stop your thoughts and take a break. That’s what your mind needs right now. Go do something relaxing or something else that can calm your mind.

Calming your mind will ease the pain, break the pattern of negativity, will stop the noise of thoughts which will eventually lead to clarity. And clarity will make a room for positive thoughts, new strategies, and possibilities.

Just give your mind time to recharge itself because the solution to all your problems lies under the piles of your emotions, scattered thoughts and mental exhaustion.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Taking responsibility for how you get treated in life can work with anyone, in any situation. For example, I have found that the way to deal with disrespectful individuals is to let them know that I am not a person who is going to tolerate that kind of conduct. So if a clerk reacts to me rudely, the first thing I do is to say to myself, this is their behaviour. They own this. Then I try to react with some kind of kindness. If that doesn’t work, I immediately go to another employee or to a supervisor, or I leave the situation altogether. I will not stand there and be physically, mentally, intellectually, or spiritually abused by anyone, ever, because I know that in allowing this to happen, I have given them permission to treat me that way.
