Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.

Taking responsibility for how you get treated in life can work with anyone, in any situation. For example, I have found that the way to deal with disrespectful individuals is to let them know that I am not a person who is going to tolerate that kind of conduct. So if a clerk reacts to me rudely, the first thing I do is to say to myself, this is their behaviour. They own this. Then I try to react with some kind of kindness. If that doesn’t work, I immediately go to another employee or to a supervisor, or I leave the situation altogether. I will not stand there and be physically, mentally, intellectually, or spiritually abused by anyone, ever, because I know that in allowing this to happen, I have given them permission to treat me that way.

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you’d like to win, but you think you can’t,
It is almost a cinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost;
For out in this world we find
Success begins with a person’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you’re outclassed, you are;
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.

Opening the blinds.

Feeling a constant pressure, living in fear, losing emotional balance and stressing about this or that has become a lifestyle.

Stress swallows your entire day leaving you miserable and helpless. It all starts with one thought or event or person and soon your mind starts obsessing about the situation and now you imagine yourself in the worst kind of scenarios.

Consequently:

  • Your mind starts beating like a broken record and you lose control and the track of time.
  • You can’t focus no matter how hard you try your mind keeps going back to the same thoughts.
  • You fear its never going to end. You will never rise above it until you are dead.
  • You are not able to sleep and even if you can in the middle of the night when you wake up to take a sip of water guess what stress is back. It just doesn’t give you a break.

Stress, anxiety and fear are a result of memorised emotions. Emotions that we practice, talk about or share on daily basis. So, if you try to cut the cord with this one it’s going to take a little bit of strategy, time and constant practice. Otherwise, stress will chase you for the rest of your life.

The only way to get rid of stress is to clear your mind.

When your mind is full of what he said or she did, I am doomed, I will never get out of ruts, this is my destiny, I must have done something wrong in my past lives, why me? Why me? Why me?

There is no room for new thoughts so you keep running on a treadmill but you don’t reach anywhere hence you have to get out of your house and run to reach somewhere.

Leave the thoughts driving you insane, change the record playing in your head.

HOW?

TRY SIX STEPS IN THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE.

 

  1. Clear your surroundings:

 

How can surroundings affect the clutter in my mind?

Well, if you want to adopt new habits, make some changes in your inner world then you have to start with your physical world.

So, clear your house, your room, drawers, and your closet. Clean it, put the books nicely on shelves, clear your desk, and get rid of dresses and makeup you don’t use anymore and fix what is broken.

Just try it. You will find your house, not only tidy but spacious. You will feel organised and it will motivate you to organise your life. The mind hates clutter. Too much stuff outside or inside confuses it and as a result, it leads to anger, uneasiness and frustration. But it loves clarity and organisation. If you keep the physical part organised it encourages the mind to organise its thoughts and become goal-oriented resulting in completion of tasks which eliminates stress.

 

  1. Clear your media platform:

 

Social media was supposed to be the platform for communication and expression but unfortunately, it has become a resource of confusion and misinformation.

You see you don’t need to know everything. Too much information can lead to distraction, confusion, unnecessary comparison making you feel how incomplete your life is.

So, stop following and browsing things that you don’t resonate with you. Things, people, and content that doesn’t inspire you or is spreading a shady lifestyle that has nothing to do with the growth you are looking for stop checking it on the internet.

As far as Netflix is concerned if a show gets into your head and if it disturbs the peace of your mind be courageous to stop watching it. There is enough drama going on in your life you don’t need more.

In addition to this, visual Learning is the most powerful learning whatever you watch it leaves a deep impact on your personality and sometimes you not only want to look like your favourite characters but also behave like them. Just make sure you become the best version of yourself not the flawed version of somebody else.

 

  1. Use distraction and excuses in your favour:

Identify the resources of your stress. Is it a thought or people? If its a thought then the moment it pops up distract yourself immediately. Go have tea, listen to your favourite music, check that beautiful dress online or talk to your favourite person but not about the thing bothering but about what are doing, eating, whatever, Avoid talking stress because if you talk about it, it will expand.

And if it is a person use the art of making excuses. Try to avoid having a detailed conversation with this person. Don’t be rude but keep it short, simple and straight like hi it’s a nice day and before he/she starts to enter your brain just say I have a meeting I have to go but you have a wonderful day, take care. Never ask them how are you or how was your day because then they will show you the whole movie. Tell them you are in rush; you have an assignment and try to escape. Don’t be guilty you are only defending your boundaries.

  1. Do Exercise

Stress eventually gives birth to chronic physical and mental health issues. It can vary from chronic headache to migraine. So, before your worries result in some health issues start paying attention to your body. Start working out. Do yoga or go to the gym or do a few basic exercises to keep your body energetic and active and protect it from losing immunity.

You will resist in the beginning but as we are living in the middle of the pandemic, I assume you are aware of the importance of immunity and exercise.

Just try it for four days consistently and the fifth day believe me you will like it and soon it will become an important part of your life that you will love.

Yup, I tried it and it worked.

  1. Mindfulness:

Live in the present. Past and future are not here in your current reality so don’t kill your now worrying about your past or what you don’t even know will ever happen or not. Not everything is supposed to be monitored. You will be fine as things are designed to be fine so don’t punish yourself. You cannot make everyone happy and if they have decided to be miserable and don’t want to get out of ruts. It’s not your fault. You tried to fix and now you have to let it go.

Put efforts in present and don’t worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will take care of itself.

 

  1. Meditation:

If your mind is full of thoughts and head is foggy because you didn’t finish above given step this task will not be completed.

So, clear your mind to eliminate stress by clearing your surroundings, media platforms, using distraction in your favour, workout, be mindful and finally try meditation.

This is the last and the crucial one now that you have decluttered your mind you have created a space in your mind worthier for bigger things.

Now you have created space for concentration to focus on something supreme than you. This focus will transform you into a person who is not only stress-free but is still.

Now you will have the power of stillness, the power for which every soul is craving for.

And because you are still here on my blog, I will give you a bonus point:

  1. Create monthly goals:

Don’t be like I will start today, tomorrow, morning or evening. Be very specific with what habit you are aiming for. Make monthly goals for instance this month I will work on confidence next month I will work on my focus. One habit at a time. Treat your habits as your other projects of life.

Divide them further set a target like I will train my mind to reduce browsing the internet or watching Netflix. Today I have done ten sets of this exercise and tomorrow I will do ten extra sets. Set goals and keep track of them.

Why monthly? Because sometimes weekly goals get too hectic to finish and when you are multitasking you might get exhausted and quit. Hence, the monthly schedule gives you enough time and space to accomplish.

Now without any further delays clear your surroundings, media platforms, use excuse wisely, do exercise, be mindful, meditate and make monthly goals to eliminate stress.

Opening the blinds.

Oh Gosh, she is so photogenic, she has a perfect body and perfect skin. I will never have that kind of confidence; I cannot pull it off. I am dull, unworthy, ugly. I just don’t have it.

Seriously why?

Because somebody framed a concept of perfect size, flawless skin or fashion trends and you believed them?

You realise we humans are not on this planet for forever. We have a timeline. Beautiful hair, flawless skin and exotic body standards are useless because one day we all will turn to ashes. What’s the point of looking down upon oneself and not even trying that cute outfit, crazy haircut and allowing yourself to enjoy, celebrate your body with positivity to be happy.

 

How does it matter to you what are these beauty standard? Why should it matter to you? Life is larger than any beauty goals or fashion trends. Don’t you think?

 

Why are you denying yourself the experiences, joys and memories of the period of life you are living. It’s going to pass anyway?

 

What’s important?

 

What do they think about your outfit or body?

 

Or what you enjoyed and what you are going to enjoy sharing these memories with your daughter while she is growing up?

The truth is it’s not about what they teach but what you choose to learn”.

You know humans are made in the image of God and you think He will create something incapable, incomplete and will label someone ugly or pretty?

Obviously no.

So why are you hiding behind your thoughts?

Come out of the dark.

Here is the deal like yourself or improve what you don’t like not because somebody is suggesting but because you want it. You don’t like your haircut change it. You want to lose or gain weight workout. How many blogs and YouTube channels are dedicated to this topic research them and follow according to the need.

Know your value, set your standards don’t copy someone else just to be accepted or appreciated or because you think they are experts but create your own. Know your body and your likes and dislikes and then act accordingly. You have one life and if something means so much to you then leave no stone unturned.

 

Most importantly, if someone calls you ugly, makes fun of you, and they make you feel bad about yourself. If all they could see is your looks which according to them is not good enough you shouldn’t be friends with them. And believe me, it’s their loss. They just lost a wonderful friend and a great support system and a time will come when they will check your Instagram and will wonder how you became so confident?

 

Two extremely important things that will help you during this process are:

1. Stop asking for opinions:

 

How do I look?

 

Do you think I gained weight?

 

Do you think it will suit me?

 

Sometimes it’s fine to ask just don’t make it a habit. Unfortunately, we all are guilty of asking opinions from our partners, friends, sisters or mothers. Initially, we are only asking our loved ones but slowly it becomes a habit and with time people keep adding to the list which will eventually lead to insecurities, and later it consumes an individual to an extend where she won’t buy a dress because she likes it but because they will like it.

 

Choose what you like and ask yourself will it make me happy. Will I walk with comfort and confidence in this dress or will I battle with my mind the entire day thinking this is not the right colour or fit for me. I should not have bought this.

 

You don’t even need to ask your best friend because you live in this body you have a brain and you know what works best for you, have faith in your calculations and yes your friends and family don’t have a better brain than you. You have your unique efficient perception which is enough for you to count on yourself which brings me to my next point.

  1. Never compare yourself:

 

Drop the comparison. You have nothing to do with your neighbours, colleagues or your siblings. Never compare your body or style statement with your loved ones this might affect your relationship. Everyone has a different perception, taste, and style what you like they may not like it. Make peace with it. I know loved ones might get under your skin because they think they know what suits you but you are you and no one knows you better than you. You have to be confident about your choices and you have to do the same for them. If you want to save yourself from judgements you have to stop judging them too. You have to learn to appreciate their choices too which they made for themselves.

 

And of course, never compare your body, outfits or lifestyle with people online because this will create discontentment and things will never be enough. You don’t know what exactly is going on in their life and how they made it till here. You have to focus on your journey of growth and happiness.

 

So if you want to enjoy your body and celebrate it with the confidence you have to detach yourself with everyone’s opinion. Just stop comparing yourself and put on that dress, enjoy yourself after all it’s just a dress. No one is perfect everyone has their own issues and who knows maybe they are imagining you are perfect and they want to be like you so stop being so hard on yourself. Take it easy and have some fun.

Opening the blinds.

You fail and you continue to fail terribly. Pressure keeps increasing. It all starts with a normal headache to a mental breakdown and keeps getting worse but WHY?

Why? What have you done to deserve this? You are trying your level best to make things work but everything is frozen.

Why?

Because you are trying hard and doing your level best to do something which you think sounds right. It sounds good, it’s practical, this is what you are supposed to do, this is the right age, this is the time to make money, a relationship, it’s time for a baby. You think you are behind and you didn’t sign up for this.

And you will continue to fail believing you are doing right missing a major point here which is you don’t believe but you were made to believe that this is right.

You keep saying yes to every job that appears practical, to everything that looks usual or should I say safe, to every person who sounds realistic. You ignore all ideas you wanted to pursue because someone is scrutinizing you.

You keep killing your feelings at the cost of your mental health because your friends have kids and you don’t even have a stable job. You know what you keep working overtime and give your project all you have but don’t ask for a raise. Stick to the job you hate and don’t submit a resume to the organization you always wanted to work with because you don’t think you have it.

Yes, you keep doing this and you will fail until all the doors are shut until you have been turned down by everyone until you have tried it all until you have no option but to follow your soul.

You can indeed run from yourself but you cannot escape. Like it or leave it if you are good at something if you have a spark no matter whatever you do, how much safe you try to play your calling will drag you back to do what you are meant to do.

It’s going to get into your head and it will create all sort of mental blocks so that you turn around and acknowledge it. It will not let you learn, practice or concentrate on anything else.

Give your best to your safety plans but they will not work. Your calling or art or dream name it anything it will make sure that you fail at everything. It will steal all your backup plans will drive you insane until you put your foot down and sing the song you were dying to sing. You write the book you wanted to or apply for the company you are dreaming about since you were in college.

It’s not about your age, gender, circumstances, family and society. It’s not about how much money you have, where you come from, someone supports you or not. It’s not about pain, criticism or right or wrong but it’s only and only about what you are meant to be. It’s about the mental peace you are yearning for.

The truth is you didn’t choose the art but the art chose you and it will make sure that it is served and once it is the cycle of failure will start to slow down and mental blocks will start melting leading to new ideas. And now that you are doing what you are meant to do it happens effortlessly with no resistance or fear and opportunities finally starts to appear.

So, relax and enjoy the ride. Explore what else you have got and be what you were meant to be.

Opening the blinds.

Confidence is not that I have contacts, there is a perfect step by step guide that I have figured out and I can just slide in now.

But confidence is I don’t know anyone, I don’t have a huge following, people have hardly seen me but I will try to connect. I don’t know how it’s going to be but at least I know the first step.

It’s not I am the best and I can take care of it better than anybody else. But its yes there are other wonderful artists but I am best in my way and I will give my best shot and let’s just take one step at a time.

Confidence is not oh it will sell and I will make a million bucks in a night. Confidence is like it will take time but it will sell eventually. Maybe I need to have some sleepless nights before I have my overnight success.

Confidence is independent of feeling I cannot afford it; this camera is not good enough or no one will look at me. Confidence lies in the smile when you look in the mirror and you say yeah, I am pretty. Brands don’t give you confidence but the dress you earned does. Maybe it’s going to take some time to earn it but consistency is the key to eventuality.

Confidence is not that you will not get nervous. Of course, you will but you will tell yourself just breathe you have rehearsed enough you can do this and then you step on the stage. People are staring at you and this makes you more nervous but this time you refuse to fall for your fears. You shift your 100% focus on your performance and give it all you have. Soon you start hearing people cheering for you. Now your confidence gains momentum and the next thing you know you have stepped in their hearts and now you don’t just have a following but a fan following.

Now you are absolutely without any doubt confident ready to pass the message to the one struggling with it.
